On World Environment Day
June 5 is the World Environment Day (WED), observed globally every year since 1973 under the sponsorship of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
Environmental protection has now emerged as a pressing issue that requires immediate action.
Severe destruction of the earth’s ecological environment from human activities is now taking a heavy toll on the existence of mankind and socio- economic development.
As the temperature rises and global warming accelerates, different disasters occur one after another and subsequent human and material losses increase year after year.
Only when all countries around the world pool their efforts together can we expect substantial success in the protection of the earth’s ecosystem, the very home of mankind.
The DPRK regards the environmental protection as an important undertaking that requires a high sense of responsibility and directs great efforts to projects for further improving the looks of mountains and rivers, and for protecting and growing bio-resources so as to promote, in the long run, public health and provide people with a better living condition.
The DPRK Red Cross Society conducts dissemination activities to enhance social awareness about environmental protection and to educate people about the consequences of and dangers from environmental pollution so that all citizens regard it as their own business to protect the environment and do it well with civil conscience.
The National Society also encourages the RC volunteers to dispose of wastes and rubbish strictly according to the guideline.
The theme of the World Environment Day 2026 is “Climate Action”.
