What Red Cross Society does for Protection of Ecological Environment
The increasingly volatile climate on Earth destroys the ecological environment and gives rise to different types of natural disasters of an unprecedented scale, thus inflicting huge human and material loss in many countries every year.
Hence, the adaptation to climate change and mitigation, and the environmental protection have emerged as pressing global agenda. International treaties related to climate and environment have been adopted, and complied with globally.
The DPRK government regards the protection of ecological environment as an important strategic work linked to the people’s life and health and the future of the country, and makes sure that all the units and regions push ahead with the work for protecting the ecological environment in a planned and consistent way.
The Red Cross Society of the DPRK has set the protection of ecological environment as its core activity, and is working for it consistently.
Particularly, the Society organizes regular trainings for the staff of the Red Cross branches and volunteers in the disaster-prone areas in a bid to raise their awareness on the importance of the protection of ecological environment.
During the trainings, the participants are requested to work out the action plan of their branches after having in-depth group and team discussions about the cause of the destruction of ecological environment and its impact, and the ways for overcoming them.
Based on these trainings, the branches make short- and long-term plans in accordance with their specific situation and capacity and they implement the activities for environmental protection in close cooperation with the people’s government organs in their regions.
