Recognizing the Importance of Afforestation and Water Conservation

Afforestation and water conservation are for minimizing the impact of natural disasters like flood and typhoon and protecting people’s lives and their property as well as land from erosion.

They are important policy tasks and government priorities and the government is pushing ahead with them with vigour. While the DPRK is propelling the second afforestation project aimed at turning all mountains across the country into literally treasure mountains, tangible successes were made in the undertakings for increasing the water passage capacity of rivers and streams and constructing and operating facilities for managing rivers.

The DPRK RCS is actively taking part in afforestation and water conservation activities organized by the local power organs in line with the policy goal of the government.

The DPRK RCS gives priority to the education of RC volunteers so that they regard afforestation and water conservation as patriotic undertakings that will have a long-lasting impact on the fatherland. The national society is very strict with volunteers about conducting afforestation and water conservation activities with sincerity such as tree-planting on mountains, dredging of riverbeds and reinforcing of embankments.

At the same time, the RCS fires the volunteers’ enthusiasm through appropriate rewarding of top volunteers in the work.
